FAQ's

How hardy are your North Country Cheviots?

Our sheep are raised to be tough. Livestock on our farm must be resilient, as we are too occupied during haying and harvest to provide extra care.

What sets your cheviots apart from other flocks?

We select the highest level of replacement ewe lambs from generations of our own ewe families. We only use rams with established genetic profiles.

Cross-breeding ability

When crossbred with a terminal meat breed, the lambs produced will grow very quickly and yield a high-quality carcass and a substantial meat yield.

How long do they live?

North Country Cheviots, usually live 10 to 12 years, but this varies based on health, living conditions, and management.

How do you pick your flock sires?

When selecting sires for our flock, we prioritize three key criterial, lineage, conformation, and health. We also ensure the flock our sires are coming from are free from disease.

Do you ship your animals?

Yes.  Infact with deal with a couple of different reputable companies.  All shipping costs are at the buyers expense.  Transport insurance is also available.

What people say?

Hands down, I would recommend Isle of Skye Cheviots for breeding stock. I have had 3 rams from Susan and they were all excellent. Hardy rams that maintained great condition year round and passed this quality down to their offspring. I think do-ability is very important and the Isle of Skye program has focused on that and it shows. As a commercial producer these Isle of Skye genetics boosted my bottom line and improved my lamb crop significantly. Which in turn improved my flocks genetic future and success. Great stock and people! Well worth the investment!

I’ve always been happy with my Rams from Susan. We’ve been buying Rams from her for years! Her rams are always good natured and have excellent conformation. A good portion of my ewes have come from these Rams, and they always produce excellent, strong, and healthy lambs that grow quickly. I recently purchased another ram from Isle of Skye bloodlines again, and I’m very excited for the lambs this ram will produce!

Our family are new sheep producers, entering our 4th season in 2025. We have been working hard to learn and establish a good system, but while conception rate was 100%, our lambing rate was barely higher than 1. With the purchase of an NCC ram from Susan, that we had shipped to Ontario, combined with ongoing support and consultation, our results this year have been astounding with a lambing rate just under 2! The lambs are instantly recognizable as high quality, vigorous from day one and - in the pure NCC lambs - strong, well boned hearty animals.

We've really been excited every year at lambing to see a new crop off NCC to hit the ground, we've really liked how solid an vigorous the lambs are at birth an really grow well that nice curved head really makes a flock look good. At breeding these rams are always on a full run looking for the next ewe to breed, we've had zero issues with them rams. The growth was excellent lambs are very uniformed, nice mother's and very solid frames is what we noticed.
