About us
Isle of Skye North Country Cheviots is situated in the Alberta foothills of the Rocky Mountains, near Caroline, Alberta. Our family has been involved in the livestock industry for over a century. We are a family farm operation dedicated to raising a commercial cattle herd, traditional Border Collies, and our highly esteemed North Country Cheviot Flock. You can find us on Facebook.
Our Cheviot flock is named after the picturesque Isle of Skye in Scotland and are direct descendants of the Queen Mother’s Longoe flock. You will find the same exceptional quality in our North Country Cheviots as the Queen Mother found in her flock. Health and Quality
Our flock’s health has been maintained by selecting ewe lambs from our own flock.
We only bring in rams from other clean closed flocks. Rams are quarantined and undergo a through examination before joining the flock.
We prioritize introducing bloodlines that have been genotyped. Furthermore, the producers we deal with must adhere to the highest health standards.
Quality Starts with Genetics
Our history
Approximately two decades ago, we initiated our flock by acquiring proven genetics from Rusty Bucket Farms and Greg Rosenke. These lines were the preeminent Canadian North Country Cheviot lines in Canada, and the lineage goes directly to the Queen Mother’s Longue flock.
Our primary goal is to preserve and improve the traits that both purebred and commercial flock leaders desire in a North Country Cheviot. We focus on stocky, robust, and well-muscled traditional type animals. We maintain several genetic lines within our flock to offer a variety of choices to our commercial and purebred clients.
Our lambs exhibit exceptional consistency, and their genetic makeup harmonizes effectively. We have strategically dispersed seed flocks across Canada, and have numerous clients eagerly anticipating their customized seed flocks geared toward specific needs. The demand for new small flocks of our North Country Cheviots is surging. The genetic quality of our North Country Cheviots is highly valued by 4-H youth, commercial clients, purebred clients, and others. We offer nationwide shipping (at buyers expense) and here currently booking new starter flocks for the 2025 season.
North Country Cheviots are a Dual Purpose Breed
Fleece
Traditional North Country Cheviots are a dual purpose breed. We focus on animals that maintain the breed standard qualities. We have strict guidelines on the quality of the fleece when it comes to selecting our breeding animals. Isle of Skye Cheviots are bred for top quality meat AND wool characteristics. Our flock is known to focus on selling small, quality flocks geared toward a growing industry of people wanting to spin or use their own fibre for knitting, crocheting or quilting.
